1. Foster a Collaborative Approach

TLIP strives to bring together a wide range of stakeholders, i.e., organizations, people, government agencies, community organizations, non-profits, educational institutions, and employers, in a setting they might not otherwise find themselves to ensure that the efforts to support immigrants are coordinated and aligned with the needs of the local community.

The partners provide input to the TLIP Council, with their lived experiences helping to guide our strategic priorities.

2. Create Tailored Solutions

TLIP provides a tailored approach to integration. As every community has unique demographics, challenges, and opportunities when it comes to immigrant settlement and integration, TLIPs foster the development of customized strategies and solutions that address the specific needs of Timmins and the area.

3. Provides Comprehensive Services

TLIP facilitates access to a wide range of services that newcomers may need, such as language training, employment support, housing assistance, healthcare information, and cultural orientation, centralizing information and resources, to make it easier for newcomers to find the help they require.

4. Community Engagement

TLIP facilitates interaction between newcomers and the local community. To help newcomers feel welcome and included, by building connections and understanding between different cultural groups, social cohesion is promoted

5. Research

TLIPs often collect and analyze data related to immigrant settlement and integration in their communities, which allows stakeholders to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement, and create targeted interventions.

6. Advocacy

TLIP collaborates with stakeholders to identify systemic barriers and challenges that immigrants face. This information informs policy discussions and advocacy efforts at various levels of government to create more supportive and inclusive policies.

7. Sustainable Impact

LIPs provide ongoing support and guidance beyond the initial settlement period. This focus on sustainable integration benefits not only individual immigrants but also the communities

As we gather virtually, we acknowledge that those of us in Timmins are situated in Treaty 9 territory, steeped in rich Indigenous history and home to many First Nations, Metis and Inuit People today. We also acknowledge Mattagami First Nation, on whose traditional land we are meeting. We make this acknowledgement as a first step in fulfilling our responsibility to critically look at colonial histories and their impact on the present day.
